No Time for This…

As a pastor, there are times I preach a sermon knowing full well that I struggle with carrying it out in my own life. While being “set apart” is something that God does, and not me, I have to be willing to act in the way God wants.

Don’t get me wrong, the things God has called me to are the most awesome things I’ve been apart of in my entire life.

However…

There are times that my schedule keeps me from doing what I would like to do. Even when there are good things…great things…God things that I feel compelled to be part of and ways to serve others, the truth is that there are only so many hours in a day. Often I find myself thinking….

“I just don’t have time for this.”

In reality, being set apart by God and for His purposes requires margin in our seemingly margin-less lives. The ever growing list of “good” things to be part of eventually pushes any availabilty for other things out of the way.

Sometimes, the first step in living a life that is “set apart” requires letting some good things go…

For better things.
For good.

Today, I will spend time reflecting on the “good” things that need to go by the wayside for the “best” things that God has set me apart for.

I hope you will do the same.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
-John 10:10 (NIV)
