Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
This is one of the most central teachings about what happens when a person becomes a follower of Jesus. The old has died and the new has come.
Why is it, that “the old” doesn’t like to stay dead? It picks at us like the school bully reminding us of our weaknesses, mistakes, and failures. No matter how many steps forward we have taken, it chides us that we have fallen behind, instead.
A quick search of Google gives us this definition of “new”…
New – adj. not existing before; made, introduced, or discovered recently or now for the first time.
“Not existing before.”
That is who you are as a follower of Jesus. You are NEW! What you were is no more. You have been MADE, INTRODUCED by the heavenly host, DISCOVERED by yourself and everyone else…FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!
Imagine the possibilities, for just a moment.
Your failures…don’t matter.
Your mistakes…are forgiven.
Your holes…are made whole.
You are NEW!
Is it sinking in, yet?
If you are new, let me encourage you to walk in your newness. Follow the One that made you new through His love, blood, and sacrifice.
Let go of the things that you once believed so greatly in and let yourself bask in the newness of a life with Jesus.
You are a NEW creation, the old has passed away and the NEW HAS COME.
