Compass Point #9

Discipleship

A relationship with Jesus is highly personal. It shapes your very identity. The person that you were before knowing Christ changes with that knowledge and it is a magnificent change. It is so easy to think that living a life of faith is also personal. But Jesus never described it that way. Instead, He described the church as a community, a people, a family.

Jesus also said that we have a mission to others to tell them about the incredible news that Jesus is the Savior of the world.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (ESV)

As you consider what God is initiating in your life and how you should respond, never forget that we are God’s messengers to a lost, hurting, and dying world.

Truth: I am God’s messenger.

Question: What message is my life communicating?

  • On my best days, I like to think that the way I live toward others reflects the heart and Way of Jesus. That is certainly my ambition and passion. But then there are other days….when stress, and frustration, and the forces that bear on my busy life tempt me to live another way; a way that is in sync with the priorities and values of our broken world system. My prayer is that each month and year that passes I tend to live more days in the former way rather than the latter. On the days I fail, I trust in Grace that is greater than all my sin. : )
