Compass Point #6

Discipleship

It is easy to believe that it is up to us to know and follow God. That somehow we must initiate His leadership in our lives or that God will just sit by and leave us to our own destructive tendencies. The truth, however, is that we are powerless to initiate anything. From knowing Him to experiencing His leadership in our lives, it all is initiated by God.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

You see, no one is more interested in recreating you than Him! Even when we feel unworthy or unfaithful, God is doing something to lead you in the direction He wants you to go. That gives us peace in trusting that He will not leave us alone and that our future will be influenced by our loving creator.

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV)

Imagine that God, right now, is orchestrating events to move you to a place where you know Him more intimately and are fulfilling the image for which you were originally created. Sometimes it takes time to see what God is doing in your life but you can trust that He is at work.

Truth: God is the initiator.

Question: What is God initiating in your relationship?
