Jesus the Ultimate Role Model

In honor of Father’s day coming up today’s blog is written for all you guys out there.

We often  talk about becoming more like Jesus here at Journey. Jesus is the ultimate male role model. We are off to a good start when we accept Christ because we become new creatures. 2nd Corinthians talks about this:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

The problem is that new creature doesn’t intermediately look like Jesus. We need to learn and grow. As men we have a natural desire to be the top dog, the alpha male. Jesus didn’t approach life like this. When we look at scripture we see a very different picture from the one we might imagine.

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Philippians 2:1‭-‬5 NLT

Unfortunately we tend to try and remake Jesus into who we want Him to be instead of who He really is.  We tend to imagine him as being similar to us when in fact He is nothing like us. Jesus our role model was generous and didn’t try to impress others. He was humble thinking of others. To be like Him we must begin to think and act like Him. This doesn’t come naturally and we need the power of the Holy Spirit to be empowered to do this.

Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. 1 John 2:6 ESV

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 ESV

The following are ten signs that you are failing at being the type of man that Jesus wants you to be. While this list is from a secular publication (AskMen.com) it is a great example of the things guys struggle with. If any of these things describe you it’s time to make some changes and start living a life that looks more like Jesus. Think through these 10 items and ask yourself how would Jesus react to these situations.

10. You Get Her To Pay For Dinner

9. You Never Apologize, Even When You’re Wrong

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Ephesians 5: 1-2 NLT
