One of the biggest lies we often tell ourselves is that our future is determined by our past. For some this is good news. If you have a pretty successful past, you assume you will have a successful future. Of course, that all depends on your definition of “success”. More likely, you are keenly aware of the mistakes of your past and you begin to believe your future is worthless because of them.
Jesus shatters both of these lines of reasoning.
A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. – John 10:10 (The Message)
Are you living in the perception that comes from the thief or from Jesus? Who have you given your future into the hands of? The truth is, Jesus came to give you a better future than you could possibly imagine.
Still, for those who’s ears are tuned into the thief who is whispering in their ears, “You are a failure. There is no hope for you.”, they believe that anything better is impossible. If this is you, trust in the words of Jesus whether it be for your salvation or for your future.
And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” – Mark 10:26–27 (ESV)
