Here’s a simple thought. Jesus said this about his purpose in caring for others.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” – Luke 4:18–19 (ESV)
Many people focus on getting the most out of this world for themselves. We don’t have to be trained to seek after our own personal happiness and comfort. Who can you go out of your way to care for, today, in the same way that Jesus did? Who needs your time, your friendship, or a portion of your earnings.
It’s not about trying to save the world. Jesus already did that. It’s about reflecting the values of our Savior. Let’s no longer live by the values of the thief.
