One of my all time favorite songs is a relatively new song from Switchfoot…”Meant to Live”. It captures the emotional and spiritual state of a lot of people I know.
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
It reminds me that my vision in this world is horribly and irrevocably impacted by a world that sentences us to a life of abysmal conformity.
Conformity to a fashion…
Conformity to a political stance…
Conformity to a specific socio-ethnic vocabulary…
Conformity to the idea that I am unique by acting like everyone else…
Conformity to the lifestyle that condemns all others for their lack of “getting it”… (BTW, everyone does that)
Everything becomes a depressing fog of sameness, yet there is something deep within that says WE. WERE. MEANT. FOR. MORE.
I’m reminded that every time…
EVERY. TIME.
Every time I look at the world through my eyes instead of God’s, I am sucked into a life of mediocrity. One that is clamoring for some sort of happiness by buying something, going somewhere, or needing others to celebrate me.
When I look through God’s eyes, something miraculous happens!
I see with new eyes!
The world becomes quiet.
The more that I’ve tried to find in other places is finally found.
Don’t expect others that haven’t experienced Jesus to understand this. Also don’t expect to convince others that your way is better. That’s the role of the Holy Spirit. Your job is simply to live in the “more”. And others will see it…
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
