Bud Light, Disney, Dave Chappelle and others have felt the sting of a culture where a group of people have determined that their viewpoints are too egregious to be allowed the light of day. It seems to be targeted at christians and non-christians alike but should it be that way? The majority almost always rules but have we taken this concept to far or is it the right way to determine what ideas and beliefs should be given a public forum?
What about the 1st Ammendment? How far should that reach in a culture where we often want to silence OTHER voices but make sure our own voices are still given a chance.
How do we view this in the church? How is it viewed in a culture that doesn’t profess to follow the tenets of any religion? In short, is this a valid and helpful tool or is it merely a bully pulpit where the larger number of people determine what will and will not be?
Brews and Views is a new monthly group forming to discuss important topics in life, faith and culture over a beer or other drink of your choice. As divisions grow in the world around us we feel it’s time to learn how to talk to each other again, even if we disagree. The goal of these events is not to convince anyone of a specific perspective, but to passionately share what we believe in a safe environment while others have the opportunity to do the same. We believe that the issues in the world need to be discussed and different opinions need to be heard while still enjoying friendships over a beer.
