I know you don’t want to hear that.
Honestly, I don’t like to hear myself say that.
My burnout, to a great degree, is my own fault.
There…I said it.
There are many things that lead to exhaustion and burnout that you and I can’t control, too.
3 consecutive weeks of sleeplessness from a newborn baby staying awake all night…
Performing that same repetitive job hour after hour, day after day, year after year…
Caring for you aging parent for weeks, months, or year…
So many other things that our completely outside of our control.
However.
Most of the time, our burnout is to be owned by the very ones that lit the flame and let it burn far longer than our soul could maintain. And before we know it, we have nothing left to offer.
It’s easy to blame others who could help carry the load but don’t.
It’s easy to blame the system that we are “powerless” to subvert.
It’s easy to walk the line of the martyr instead of taking stands that are healthy, but unpopular.
At the end of the day, if I am really going to burn brightly, instead of burn out, I have to take responsibility for my own health.
My own choices.My own habits.
And my own fear that sometimes drives me to take on more than is even remotely possible.
While there are certainly circumstances that cause us to feel burned out that are beyond our control, most of them are by my own choosing and I CAN choose the path to health, instead.
What are you allowing to burn you out?
Are you really willing to make the hard decisions that can lead to a healthy ability to burn bright?
Join me Sunday as I share more about making changes that make a real difference.
